Lithology and Thickness
The Sainartag Fm is a suite of dark gray to greenish gray low-grade metamorphic detrital rock. Locally, the basal part is intercalated with an unstable bed of greenish gray epidotized andesite (bearing rubbles). Lower part dominated by schistose phyllitic silty mudstone. Middle part is thin-bedded fine quartzose sandstone intercalated with schistose siltstone and silty mudstone. Upper part is dominated by thin-bedded schistose siltstone interbedded with silty mudstone, intercalated with argillaceous limestone. The total thickness varies from 1010 to 2005 m. In Pargang area, the Sainartag Formation has only 140 m preserved because of the effects of faulting.
